The fastest way to check whether you have GPT-6 Astra
GPT-6 Astra is still rolling out in stages. OpenAI's September 3 release notes say access started with a limited set of organizations and is not yet generally available, so an eligible subscription does not mean every account or product surface has received Astra at the same moment.
Sign in to the exact product where you want to use Astra and check its model picker or model-access settings. Do not assume that seeing Astra in Chat automatically means your API project, ChatGPT Work or Codex environment has received it too.
02
Who is eligible during the rollout?
OpenAI's launch announcement says Astra is expanding over the coming days to ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise users, as well as the OpenAI API. The detailed ChatGPT help page is more specific for Chat itself: GPT-6 Astra appears there as GPT-6 Pro and is currently described as rolling out to Pro $100, Pro $200, Business and Enterprise plans.
03
How to access GPT-6 Astra in ChatGPT
If Astra has reached your eligible ChatGPT account, check the model menu's Pro-model options. OpenAI's current help page says GPT-6 Astra is exposed as GPT-6 Pro on eligible plans as it rolls out.
If GPT-6 Pro is missing, staged rollout is one possible explanation. For managed Business or Enterprise accounts, workspace policy can also affect what appears, so check both rollout status and workspace model permissions before treating the absence as an account problem.
04
How to enable Astra in Enterprise or Edu workspaces
OpenAI says GPT-6 Astra is off by default at launch in eligible Enterprise and Edu workspaces. Once Astra reaches the workspace, owners can enable it for the full workspace or for specific roles through model-access controls.
Existing Early Model Access settings do not automatically grant Astra. If a member cannot see the model, OpenAI recommends checking rollout availability first and then checking model-access permissions and assigned roles.
05
GPT-6 Astra in ChatGPT Work and Codex
OpenAI's current ChatGPT help page says Pro subscribers get Astra in Chat, ChatGPT Work and Codex as the rollout reaches those products, while availability can differ between the three during rollout. Business access also depends on workspace availability and settings.
That means it is possible to see Astra in one OpenAI product before another. Check the model controls inside the surface you actually plan to use instead of treating Chat, Work and Codex as one synchronized release.
06
How to access GPT-6 Astra through the API
The API model ID is gpt-6-astra. Once your API account has access, OpenAI's model guidance says to set model to gpt-6-astra in a Responses API request. The Responses API is the recommended path for Astra's tool-heavy workflows.
If the model is unavailable to your project, verify that Astra has reached the account and that you are using the intended API organization or project. For current token prices, context limits, reasoning controls and tool behavior, continue to the dedicated GPT-6 Astra API & Pricing Guide.
07
What should you use GPT-6 Astra for first?
OpenAI describes Astra as its most capable model for complex reasoning, coding, computer use, research and document creation. Its model guidance emphasizes multistep work across code, browsers and professional software.
A useful first test is a real workflow that currently needs several tools or human handoffs: repository work, multi-source research, browser tasks, long document analysis or a task whose requirements may change while work is running. Routine high-volume tasks can still be better routed to a lower-cost model when they already meet the quality bar.
08
Why GPT-6 Astra may not be showing up
- Confirm the exact ChatGPT plan or API account you are using.
- Confirm Astra has rolled out to that specific product surface.
- Check the model picker or product-specific model controls.
- For managed workspaces, check admin model-access controls and assigned roles.
- Remember that Chat, ChatGPT Work, Codex and API availability can differ during rollout.
